Level 4 NVQ


Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision  

The successful completion of the NVQ 4 programme in Construction Site Supervision enables candidates to take the Supervisor and Manager CSCS Health and Safety test and, if successful, qualify for a Gold CSCS Card. Holders of this award are exempt from supervisor assessment if applying for the CSR Supervisor Gold Card. Candidates successfully completing this award can apply for Associate Membership of the CIOB.


Options

The NVQ route selected will be dependent upon the candidate’s working discipline, the options are:

 

·        Building and Civil Engineering 

·        Residential Development 

·        Conservation


Eligibility

This programme is designed for those starting out in a supervisory role, first line supervisors or for assistant site managers within the construction industry. 


Assessment

Competence is assessed by ongoing assessments against the NVQ standards relating to specific areas of supervision, which include:  

 

·        Health, Safety & Welfare  

·        Planning
.        Physical resource management  

·        Implementing work  

·        Monitoring and control  

·        Managing teams and individuals  

·        Working relationships.

 

Candidates must prove competence in 14 units, dependent on the NVQ they are the following. 


Provision of Assessment

Candidates will be allocated an assessor who acts as mentor and guide throughout the programme. The programme will include an induction which relates to the overall course and provides guidance on how the NVQ is formulated and presented. In addition, candidates will attend for briefing and assessment for each of the units either on site or an agreed location. 


Duration

It is normal for candidates to complete the programme in approximately 12  months, although
it is possible to do so in a shorter period. Extensions can be negotiated.

Grant

A grant of £750.00 may be payable from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB NI) to registered employers.



 


Level 7 NVQ


Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management

This is the highest level of NVQ and equates to degree level.  On successful completion of the NVQ level 7 award in Construction Senior Management, candidates can apply for Chartered Membership of the CIOB by way of a shortened application as they have already proven competence at a senior level.  It also allows access to CSCS and CSR Senior Management Cards.


Eligibility

This NVQ is designed for  senior managers
working within the construction built environment sector.


Total Qualification Units  :

Candidates must prove competence in 10 units  :


Mandatory Units:

The candidate is required to complete the following four mandatory units:


  • Manage Teams
  • Lead and participate in meetings
  • Provide ethical advice, judgement and service
  • Develop self and others.

 

Optional Units:

In addition the candidate will complete 6 units from two of the three categories below.


Project Development

  • Prepare and agree a brief and development programme
  • Manage design development and processes
  • Assess and evaluate the environmental impact of developments
  • Evaluate sustainable resources and requirements
  • Manage marketing and customer service.

 

Procurement, Contract and Budgets

  • Establish project procurement arrangements
  • Implement strategic sourcing partnerships
  • Manage procurement processes
  • Prepare and submit estimates, bids and tenders
  • Ensure that contracts are prepared,negotiated and concluded
  • Control organisational and project income and expenditure.

 

Project Control

  • Control Projects outcomes
  • Evaluate and progress the resolution of disputes
  • Manage project completion.

Candidates will be allocated an assessor who acts as mentor and guide throughout the programme. The programme will include an induction which relates to the overall course and provides
guidance on how the NVQ is formulated and presented. In addition candidates will attend briefing and assessment for each of the units.  This is normally carried out within the candidate's workplace, however other venues can be agreed. 

 

Competence is assessed by ongoing assessments measured against the NVQ standards relating to specific areas of management. One or two site visits by the assessor will also be required during the period of the programme. 


Duration

It is normal for candidates to complete the programme in approximately 12 - 18 months, although it is possible to do so in a shorter period. Extensions can be negotiated. 


Grant

A grant of £1,250.00 for this programme is payable from the Construction Industry Training Board NI to registered employers.



Level 6 NVQ


Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management  

The successful completion of the NVQ 6

programme in Construction Site Management enables candidates to take the Supervisor and Manager CSCS Health and Safety test and, if successful, qualify for a  Black CSCS Card. Holders of this award are exempt from the manager assessment if applying for CSR Platinum Card.
Candidates would also be eligible to apply for Chartered Membership of the CIOB by way of professional review application.


Options

The NVQ route selected will be dependent upon
the candidate’s working discipline, the options are: 

·        Building and Civil Engineering

·        Residential Development

·        Conservation.


Eligibility 

This NVQ L6 Diploma is designed for site
managers who can prove competence in the areas listed above.


Assessment

Competence is assessed by ongoing assessments
against the NVQ standards relating to specific areas of management, which include:  


·        Planning

·        Health, Safety & Welfare

.        Environmental and sustainability

·        Organising monitoring and control

·        Teams and individuals

·        Working relationships

·        Communication

·        Physical resource management.


Candidates must prove competence in 18, 19 or 20 units, dependent on the NVQ they are following. 


Provision of Assessment

Candidates will be allocated an assessor who acts as mentor and guide throughout the programme. The programme will include an induction which relates to the overall course and provides guidance on how the NVQ is formulated and presented. In addition, candidates will attend for briefing and assessment for each of the units either within their workplace or an alternative venue.


Duration

It is normal for candidates to complete the
programme in approximately 12 months, although it is possible to do so in a shorter period. Extensions can be negotiated.


Grant

A grant of £1,000.00 may be payable from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB NI) to registered employers.
